Supporting Our Littlest Learners—Together!

At United Way of San Juan County, we’re proud to support programs that create lasting impact in our community, like the Primary Intervention Program (P.I.P.) at Friday Harbor Elementary School.

P.I.P. has provided another successful year of child-led, play-based emotional support for students in grades K–3. As young children navigate transitions that can be overwhelming or stressful, P.I.P. offers them a safe, nurturing environment where they can express emotions, process experiences, and build self-confidence.

These early interventions matter. They help children develop the resilience and emotional tools they need to thrive in the classroom—and in life.

We’re honored to be part of this vital work. Thank you to the educators, staff, and families who make this possible. Let’s continue to champion Early Childhood Education and invest in our children’s bright futures.

From the PIP Program:

Thank You, United Way of San Juan County! 🎉

The Primary Intervention Program (P.I.P.) at Friday Harbor Elementary is deeply grateful for another year of your generous support. Your continued partnership has helped us provide another successful year of support and growth for our K–3 students.

As we know, children often face changes in their lives that are beyond their control. These transitions can bring about stress, worry, and emotional challenges that may affect their ability to focus and thrive in the classroom. P.I.P. gives young children a safe space to express these experiences, anxieties, and feelings through play. Using a child-led approach and encouragement by a trained Child Development Associate (Special Pal💛), children express their emotions, process their experiences, and develop a sense of control over their world. Through this empowering process, they build confidence, recognize their inner strengths, and grow the self-assurance they need to help them thrive in the classroom.

Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of our youngest learners. THANK YOU for believing in the power of early intervention!
